Life and Travel in China
A personal journal with stories, travel experiences, funny situations and everyday life in China
I planned four days in the mountains, but came back after two. A village in Guangdong province, near Guangzhou. Supposedly mineral waters, hotels, mountains, hot springs, etc. Everything is about 30 km away from the town, but I didn't expect such a village. The hotel is quite poor, but the price is 150 RMB/day, no infrastructure, no decent restaurants, dirty shops, poor villages, only relatively interesting mountains and a slightly cluttered waterfall. National park - paid entry, of course, and inside there are deer trapped behind a fence (it smelled so bad there) and two islands with monkeys and peacocks (but to get there, you have to pay for the cruise again). I was more eager to see the 'free part of the mountains' than this poor park. Pathetic, and Poland is so beautiful.
I just came back from a large supermarket and one DVD cover caught my eye. Imagine that it was a Polish Old Fairy Tale. But... on the front cover there is a strange knight in armor (not from this movie at all), behind him in the background there is a blonde like Pamela (especially not from Stara Baśni), and at the bottom there is a large battlefield (also not in this movie). Żebrowski is in the corner, covered with price. On the back it's better, you can see small, red-saturated scenes from the film, everything is correct, there is Żebrowski, Olbrychski, Foremniak and Popiel, i.e. Stupka. All in all, I was happy, although maybe even the producer of this film doesn't know that you can buy copies in China?! I like the movie, maybe the Chinese will like it too!
Today I knocked on one clown's window. Damn illegal taxi, cars like small Peugeot 106s, only worse, broken and Chinese. They drive like crazy. He saw me driving and started yelling at me, because for them a cyclist or a pedestrian is trash and can't afford a car. I accelerated and knocked on his window with all my strength, so much so that the window almost fell out. The clown was getting old, he didn't know what was happening at all. Maybe next time he will think twice before risking the life of a cyclist or pedestrian.
A 12-year-old Polish girl won the competition for the best essay in Chinese, which took place in Beijing. Some time ago, the only foreigner - a Pole, became a professor of Chinese, but of course the average Pole does not know about it. Instead of rejoicing over the smaller or larger successes of our compatriots, the Polish media are busy transmitting information about the creation, or rather transformation, of our stupid government. And I have always said that someone who is interested in politics and puts any hopes in politicians is simply naive. The only thing that counts there is business, power and career!
Today they wanted to lynch a guy under my balcony. I don't know what happened, but twenty guys started chasing one guy. They hit him, threw him onto the street and started kicking him, while security from a nearby skyscraper just looked on. I shouted at them at full capacity in Chinese twice, 'What are you doing!' They didn't know who was screaming, they probably thought it was the police and they quickly stopped hitting him and dispersed. The guy had a bruised head, but nothing serious was wrong with him. They could have killed him, but luckily it didn't happen. I had already witnessed a similar fight, when a boy was choking and beating a girl in the street, the crowd was watching, so I stopped it too. They are brave, like a group chasing one, or like a strong beating up a weak one. No matter what happens there, you can't kick someone lying down and then attack one of them in a group.
